I was cited with a $250 parking ticket in Eastern WA (along with 5 others who also got ticketed), while parked at a trail head last winter.
After reading the local law and looking for “defects” as TJ teaches, I found there was no justification for the ticket. I responded immediately pointing out that the law cited on their ticket did not provide for a ticket “at this location”, so I took the position that and if they expected me to pay the fine I needed them to prove it was “required” as written. The County sent a series of threatening notices, which I promptly responded to, continuing to ask for proof. As TJ says, always place the burden of proof on them, not yourself. Their proof never came and the notices stopped. I never heard from them again.
